Pathfinder Expectations
At Open Passage Tours, our Pathfinders are one of the biggest reasons travelers choose to explore the world with us.
A Pathfinder is more than a trip leader. They are your guide through the experience, helping remove the stress of international travel so you can focus on making memories.
While every Passage includes planned experiences and free time to explore, your Pathfinder is there to help the journey run smoothly from departure to return.
What Your Pathfinder Does
Your Pathfinder is there to help you travel with confidence.
They will:
-
Lead the group throughout the Passage.
-
Help navigate airports, train stations, and transportation.
-
Keep the group informed about meeting times and daily plans.
-
Assist with hotel check-ins and logistics.
-
Offer recommendations for restaurants, shopping, and local experiences.
-
Help bridge communication challenges when possible.
-
Coordinate included excursions and activities.
-
Assist travelers during unexpected travel disruptions.
-
Help create a fun, welcoming group environment.
-
Share their travel experience and practical tips throughout the journey.
Our goal is simple.
Travel with confidence. Explore with freedom.
What Your Pathfinder Does Not Do
While Pathfinders are experienced travelers, there are limits to their role.
A Pathfinder is not:
-
A licensed tour guide unless specifically stated.
-
A medical professional.
-
A security officer.
-
A translator or interpreter.
-
A babysitter or childcare provider.
-
Responsible for supervising minors outside scheduled group activities.
-
Responsible for carrying luggage or personal belongings.
-
Available 24 hours a day for personal requests.
Travelers remain responsible for their own decisions during free time and for following local laws and customs.
During Free Time
One of the things that makes Open Passage Tours different is our approach to travel.
We believe unforgettable moments often happen when you have the freedom to explore.
During scheduled free time, travelers are welcome to:
-
Explore independently.
-
Visit attractions of personal interest.
-
Shop.
-
Relax.
-
Dine wherever they choose.
-
Form smaller groups with fellow Voyagers.
Your Pathfinder can recommend places to visit and answer questions, but each traveler is responsible for managing their own time and returning to scheduled meeting points.
Staying Together
For included activities and transportation, we ask everyone to:
-
Arrive at meeting locations on time.
-
Follow group instructions.
-
Respect schedules.
-
Notify your Pathfinder if you plan to leave the group during designated free time.
-
Carry the emergency contact information provided before departure.
Respecting the schedule helps everyone enjoy the Passage.
Respect for Fellow Voyagers
Every Passage brings together travelers from different backgrounds who share a love of exploring the world.
We ask every Voyager to:
-
Treat fellow travelers with kindness and respect.
-
Be patient and flexible.
-
Respect local customs and cultures.
-
Follow the laws of each destination.
-
Avoid behavior that disrupts the experience for others.
Open Passage Tours reserves the right to remove any traveler whose behavior creates a safety concern or significantly impacts the group experience.
If Something Goes Wrong
Travel does not always go exactly as planned.
Flights get delayed.
Weather changes.
Transportation schedules shift.
Your Pathfinder will work with our travel partners to communicate updates, coordinate solutions, and help the group adapt as smoothly as possible.
While your Pathfinder will advocate for the group, some situations are outside their control and are ultimately governed by airlines, hotels, transportation providers, and local authorities.
Our Promise
Every Open Passage is built around one idea:
See the world, not a schedule.
Your Pathfinder is there to handle the logistics, answer questions, and help you feel comfortable traveling somewhere new.
They cannot eliminate every travel challenge, but they will help you navigate them with confidence.
We look forward to exploring the world with you.
